Hungarian police bust criminal organisation by using FBI technique
The Hungarian police using FBI methods have uncovered and successfully arrested a criminal gang sourcing and selling drugs in Hungary on the dark web, making millions.
Police have reported that the FBI and EUROPOL created a workgroup and have informed the appropriate Hungarian authorities since they have found data about a criminal gang using the dark web to acquire and sell drugs.
Following the analysis of the data supplied by the above-mentioned organisations, the Hungarian investigators have found supporting evidence that several criminals were involved in drug trafficking and money laundering.
The Hungarian investigators have managed to track down several members of the criminal organisation and back in July 2021, they have arrested three people involved.
They have found 1 kilogram of tablets with high THC content, 300 grams of marijuana, and 3.6 million forints (€ 10,000) of cash. Following a house search, they uncovered tools used for packaging the drugs and a further 6.5 million forints (€ 18,000).
After the first arrest was made, the police have continued their work and uncovered several other underworld connections which were the sources of the drugs.
Authorities have estimated that the three men sold 50 kg of marijuana, 4 kg cocaine, 40 litres of amphetamine oil, enough to produce 100 kg of drugs a little over two months.
Origo reported that the Hungarian police have uncovered the location of the previously arrested criminals’ connection and have raided a total of six locations in three cities on 15 February.
The police have found 36 million forints (€ 100,000), valuable watches, jewellery, and a BMW at each location. Additionally, they confiscated 3,000 MDMA ecstasy tablets and 1 kg marijuana.
During the raid, the authorities have arrested another man who was sourcing the MDMA tablets for the criminal gang. They found 7,000 MDMA tablets in his house as well as 4 kg of amphetamine.
Thanks to the house search and the following investigation, the Hungarian police have uncovered that the man used the dark web to source the drugs and made payments with Bitcoin.
The investigation was fruitful as they found out about one of his foreign connections from whom he ordered 15,000 MDMA tablets. Luckily, the package arrived at the warehouse of a shipping company on the day of the raid.
The police have confiscated those as well as 5 million forints (€ 13.8 thousand) worth of cryptocurrency and cash.
